Influenced by the bands love for post punk and goth, Blackbird begins with a ghostly guitar riff, creeping out of the dark, with Price's airy and ethereal vocals following behind. A sharp change of dynamics and tempo builds to a soaring chorus, backed by Hurlstone's thundering bass guitar and Murphy's driving and frenetic drumbeat. The bridge acts to juxtapose the dark tone the band have created to this point, featuring new chords and a revised drum groove, invoking their 60s surf influences. The band soon hurtle back into Blackbird's eerie hook, before crashing full speed into a choked crash symbol that triggers a wall of feedback, sinking back into the dark same way it emerged. This is the next huge British rock band and whether you accept and support them now or not, best believe you will.
